The Value of ONE Minute at IELTS

A lesson on the importance of time management

Time is of absolute importance in the IELTS test. No matter which section you are doing, every minute counts, so you must have a plan for every one of them. Therefore, do not spend more than one minute on this lesson. I suggest you have a stopwatch ready by your side.

Speaking

In part 2 of the Speaking test, you have just one minute to prepare your notes. So, the notes must contain key words not sentences. This will help you remember what to say easily and quickly.
How should I prepare my notes?

Reading

Spend one minute on each question. If it takes more than that, it is best to leave it as they all carry the same mark.
How can I manage my time efficiently?

Writing

When you open the question booklet and see the task, don’t rush. Spend one minute analyzing the question and realize what type of IELTS essay, visual or letter it is.
What else should I do before writing?

Listening

One minute! No! You have half a minute between sections. Use the time to check your answers and more importantly, read ahead.
How should I allocate my time before every section?

Reading this lesson took one minute. Remember that this is all the time you have for these critical parts in IELTS.
