IELTS Indicator Format
The novel IELTS indicator is conducted online from the comfort and safety of your home. But like the regular IELTS test, there are four modules of Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, and you will be given an indicative score for each. Wondering how your speaking and writing will be assessed? They will be marked by IELTS examiners (Speaking via the Zoom app) and you will receive your result within seven days.
The Future of IELTS Indicator
COVID-19 seems to be here to stay for quite a while. Until the pandemic is under control and large gatherings are permitted, you have this academic test to take online. Educational providers can use IELTS Indicator for admission purposes while IELTS testing is suspended.
Its validity
As IELTS Indicator provides only an indicative score, not all universities recognize it. Before you book, be sure to check with your university or educational institution. What’s more, IELTS Indicator is an Academic test only and cannot be used for immigration purposes.

What is the new IELTS Indicator test?
It is a test, completed online, that includes Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking sections and uses IELTS questions marked by IELTS examiners. This means that this test is more reliable than a mock test, as it provides a more accurate score.
IELTS Indicator follows the same content, format, structure and timing of an IELTS test. IELTS Indicator Speaking test continues to value the importance of face-to-face conversational English as it conducted over video call with a real IELTS examiner.

Will there be IELTS Indicator General Training?
Currently IELTS Indicator is only available as an Academic test. IELTS Indicator has been designed to support students’ progress their University and Educational Institution applications during the COVID-19 crisis and has not been developed for migration purposes.
IELTS Indicator is not accepted for economic migration to Canada.
Is there a minimum age requirement for test takers to be able to take IELTS Indicator?
Yes. IELTS Indicator has been designed as a test for adults, and is not recommended for those under 18 years only. Those aged 15 or under cannot take IELTS Indicator. Those aged 16 or 17 years old must get a consent form signed by a parent/guardian and will also need to have a chaperone with them during their IELTS Indicator Speaking test.
Will the test be timed?
The time window for the test will be strictly controlled, so each section will be time-bound. You need to complete the test in one sitting, so be sure you have availability for the full duration of the Listening, Reading and Writing sections – approximately 2 hours 45 minutes. You cannot pause the test and come back later. Your Speaking test will be conducted separately.
What is the duration of IELTS Indicator?
It is the same duration as IELTS. Listening is for 30 minutes, followed by Reading for 60 minutes and then Writing for 60 minutes. The Speaking test can be held either before or after the Listening, Reading and Writing test and takes 11-14 minutes.
How many individual tests will be included in IELTS Indicator? How many Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking tests?
It will include one test for each section: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
How is IELTS Indicator Speaking test different from the IELTS?
Both IELTS and IELTS Indicator have a one-to-one Speaking test with an IELTS Examiner. IELTS Indicator Speaking test is conducted over video call.
By hosting the Speaking test with a trained examiner, IELTS Indicator maintains focus on real life conversational English ability – just like in the real world. No penalties for accents.
What should I have with me during the Speaking test?
For your Speaking test you will need to have your passport / identity document which you booked your IELTS Indicator test with, along with a paper and pen. You have to download Zoom video call application to your laptop or computer and ensure you have a web camera.
What if I don’t have a web camera?
You need a working camera to be able to take the test.
How will I know if my university or college is happy to use the indicative scores?
As IELTS Indicator does not replace an in-person IELTS test at a test centre, it is not accepted by all organisations. We recommend that you check with your university or education provider before you book.
When will the result be released?
You will receive your results within seven days of completing all sections of the test.
Will I get a score for each section along with an overall score?
You will receive an indicative score for each section along with an overall indicative score. Indicative scores will help you know how you performed and where you need to improve.
Will score ranges for IELTS Indicator be the same as for the regular in-person IELTS test?
Yes.
Who will mark the IELTS Indicator test?
Responses will be marked by official IELTS examiners, following the IELTS marking criteria.
