Calculate your Listening and Reading scores

How does IELTS calculate your score?

Want to get a 7.0 at IELTS? Do you know how many correct answers will get you there? 29? 30? 34? Is it the same between Listening and Reading? What about Academic Reading or Academic Listening? Enough questions!

Listening vs. Reading

Despite their similarities in the number of questions (i.e. 40 questions), the same number of correct answers will NOT necessarily give you similar results. IELTS tests are different in their level of difficulty. That is to say, 30 correct questions in Listening might give you 7.0 while the same number of correct answers won’t grant you a 7.0 in Reading.

Academic vs. General Training

Another key factor is the type of IELTS module you attend. Listening is the same in both types; however, the score you get for Reading depends on the module you choose. For instance, whereas 30 correct questions can give you 7 in Academic Reading, to get 7 in General Training you must answer 34 questions correctly.
