Candidate’s Response:

The first line chart given compares the trend in buying electrical gadgets in a country over a period of 100 years, and the second chart illustrates the amount of time spent on houseworks during one week for one household in the same period of time.

Overall, the trend in buying three types of electrical devices, namely, washing machine, refrigerator, and vacuum cleaner was upward. On the other hand the time used for household chores significantly decreased from 1920 to 2019.

According to the first graph, while refrigerator had the lowest percentage of slightly above zero, it experienced an upward trend until 1980 when it reached its plateau of 100% and it remained unchanged until 2019. A similar change can be seen for vacuum cleaner with a dramatic surge from 30% to 90% over 80 years. Then it peaked at 100% in 2000. Among these three devices only washing machine ownership percentage fluctuated over time with a slight fall between 1980 and 1980.

Considering the second chart, it is evident that each family spent 50 hours per week for tasks like laundry, cooking, and cleaning in 1980. This number, however, experienced a gradual decrease from 1920 to 1980 by around a fall of 14 hours weekly. The trend there moved steadily till 2019 with only 1 to 2 hours.

The 6.5 sample upgraded to 7.0+

The provided charts offer a comprehensive overview of the shifts in ownership of electrical appliances and the amount of time spent on housework in households within one country over nearly a century, from 1920 to 2019.
The first line graph illustrates the percentage of households equipped with three essential electrical appliances: washing machines, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners. In 1920, a mere 10% of households owned these appliances, with a gradual increase over the years. By 1950, ownership began to rise significantly, reaching approximately 50%. The trend continued to climb steadily, with around 80% of households possessing these appliances by 1990. The most significant surge occurred between 1990 and 2010, when ownership skyrocketed to nearly 100%, remaining stable at that level until 2019.
The second line graph represents the number of hours dedicated to housework per week per household. In 1920, households spent an average of 40 hours per week on housework. This figure gradually declined, reaching its lowest point around 20 hours per week in 1990. After this decline, there was a slight upward trend, with households spending approximately 25 hours on housework per week by 2019.
In summary, the charts depict a remarkable transformation in household dynamics within this country over the last century. The ownership of electrical appliances has become nearly universal, significantly reducing the time devoted to housework. The progressive decline in housework hours reflects the increasing convenience provided by these appliances, ultimately contributing to a more efficient and less time-consuming domestic environment.
