Feedback:

Thank you for writing this essay. The writer addresses both parts of the question, discussing the importance of learning English and the value of preserving local languages. They provide relevant examples to support their points, like the student communicating in Berlin using English.
The response could delve deeper into "why" it is important to preserve local languages and offer more specific strategies. The suggestion for practical lessons with classmates is relevant but lacks depth in terms of explaining how this approach could be practically implemented and how it impacts language preservation.

Nowadays, English is taught in almost every school, often given more importance than local languages. If local languages are neglected, they risk fading away entirely. While I believe that English is a vital subject for developing global communication skills, it is equally important to protect and promote local languages, as they are essential for communication within one’s hometown or country.
English is an important subject to study, as it is commonly taught from elementary school onward. One reason for its significance is that English is widely understood worldwide. This means that even if someone doesn’t know a foreign language, they can communicate using English and still be understood. For example, a student visiting Berlin on holiday might not speak German, but they could use English to communicate effectively with locals, ensuring clear and easy understanding.
However, it is also important to consider that most people primarily use their native language for daily interactions in their own country. Therefore, mastering the local language is equally necessary. For example, an Italian citizen will spend most of their time speaking Italian or local dialects to interact with others, making fluency in these languages essential. To ensure the survival of local languages, schools could enhance their teaching methods by incorporating practical exercises that focus on real-life usage. Hiring more qualified teachers with expertise in these languages would also improve learning quality. Teachers could conduct lessons where students practice speaking with each other in the local language, which would help reinforce their fluency and appreciation for it.
In conclusion, while English is essential for developing communication skills on a global level, it is not more important than local languages, which are crucial for everyday interactions within one’s own community. Practical and interactive lessons could be a solution to ensure the survival of local languages and to maintain their relevance for future generations.
