Candidate’s Response:

These days, striking up friendship and having friends is one of significant human’s social needs which has been proved through psychological theories. While some people believe that our friend selection should be limited to the people with same ideas, others, myself included, express that our friends should not be restricted to the ones with same ideas and it could be advantageous to find friends with opposite theories. In the following essay, I will discuss both these views and give my reasons.

On the one hand, People with same perspectives would not have any verbal fights as they do agree in most areas. Therefore, their mutual interaction will lead to a friendly relationship. The ones with same ideas can offer a social support to their team since they are contributing in different discussions at the workplace or even at schools. Consequently, there is a tendency to increase their self-confidence.

On the other hand, people who hold the view that having friends with various theoretical frameworks is more beneficialthat their discussion about different subjects could offer more benefits rather than people with same ideas. They believe that the negotiation between people with wide range of ideas could lead to broadening their horizons due to sharing different thoughts. In other words, their discussions can fire up a heated argument which results in improving their social skills.

To sum up, I believe that striking up friendship with people from various theoretical perspectives could be more beneficial for us due to some valid reasons. Reasons such as boosting social skills and expanding the knowledge of the world are the prominent ones.

The choice between befriending like-minded individuals or those with differing opinions is a matter of personal preference. While some argue in favor of forming friendships with those who share their viewpoints, others advocate for the benefits of having friends with contrasting beliefs. In my opinion, a balanced approach, encompassing both types of friendships, is the most rewarding and enriching.
Choosing friends who share your opinions can provide a sense of belonging and comfort. It's reassuring to be surrounded by individuals who validate your beliefs and values, creating a safe space where you can freely express yourself without fear of judgment or conflict. Such friendships are vital for emotional well-being.
However, friendships with those who hold differing viewpoints can be equally valuable. These connections expose you to new perspectives, stimulating personal growth and intellectual enrichment. Interacting with people who challenge your beliefs encourages self-reflection and a deeper understanding of various issues. These friendships promote open-mindedness and broaden your horizons.
In my opinion, the ideal approach is to strike a balance between these two extremes. While it's comforting to have like-minded friends, those who disagree with you can be intellectually stimulating, leading to personal growth. The key is to maintain a respectful and open dialogue with those who hold different views, as this can lead to a more informed and empathetic outlook on life.
In conclusion, both types of friendships have their merits. A blend of like-minded and diverse friendships can provide emotional support and personal growth, resulting in a more well-rounded and enriched social life.
