Candidate’s Response:

A large number of people opt for watching foreign movies instead of domestic films. In my opinion, this is mainly because foreign movie producers make their films more attractive comparing to local ones. In order to improve the current state of local film production quality and, therefore, attractiveness, the authorities should certainly implement specific measures, including financial support.

There is little room for doubt that foreign movie producers, by aiming to gain as much profit as possible from a picture, endeavour to create movies which will be attractive not only for the local public but for all people throughout the world. In other words, globally-known film companies, such as Warner Bros, Columbia Pictures, or Disney Pictures, recruit world-famous actors, screenwriters, producers, and directors in order to produce a high-quality product which would certainly influence public to spend their money to watch it. Furthermore, many people, especially young people, consider movie stars and famous sportspeople as role models. As a result, most youngsters crave to watch movies where one of their role models acts, regardless of the dull screenplay of a movie.

The main advantage for supporting local film producers and implementing encouraging incentives is that popular movies could become an additional source of income for a country. Firstly, by producing internationally-acclaimed movies, local film-making companies would gain higher profit and, along with them, enlarge countries’ overall income. These companies’ success will help not only countries thrive but also people learn new skills and obtain useful experience, by creating more workplaces for locals. Secondly, by engaging the attention of foreigners, local movies would become providers of fresh investments to a country from abroad. Hence, most Westerners would be encouraged to visit a country to broaden their outlook, for instance, after watching a movie representing a significant country’s historical event.

In conclusion, by promoting local filmmakers financially or through implementing encouraging initiatives the authorities would not only enhance the current state of local film industry but also uphold a country economically.

In the contemporary world, a substantial number of individuals exhibit a preference for foreign films over locally produced ones. This inclination can be attributed to various factors, and the question arises whether governments should provide increased financial support to domestic film industries. This essay explores these aspects, considering the reasons behind the popularity of foreign films and the potential benefits of bolstering local cinematic endeavors.
The popularity of foreign films can be ascribed to several factors. Firstly, global film industries, particularly Hollywood, often boast substantial budgets that allow for the recruitment of internationally renowned actors, directors, and production teams. This results in high-quality productions that captivate audiences worldwide. Moreover, foreign films frequently explore diverse cultures, providing viewers with a unique and enriching cinematic experience. The allure of witnessing different perspectives and lifestyles contributes to the appeal of films originating from various corners of the globe.
As for whether governments should allocate more financial support to local film industries, the answer hinges on the potential benefits such support could yield. Providing financial aid to domestic filmmakers has the potential to elevate the quality of local productions. With increased funding, filmmakers can access better equipment, hire skilled professionals, and engage in comprehensive marketing campaigns. This, in turn, enhances the competitiveness of local films in the global market.
Furthermore, supporting the local film industry can have profound economic implications. Successful local productions not only contribute to a country's cultural identity but also serve as lucrative exports. Revenue generated from the international distribution of films can boost the overall economy, creating job opportunities and fostering a thriving creative ecosystem.
However, it is essential for governments to strike a balance. While financial support is crucial, it should be accompanied by measures to ensure the artistic freedom and creativity of filmmakers. Excessive interference may stifle innovation and lead to formulaic productions that fail to resonate with audiences.
In conclusion, the preference for foreign films can be attributed to their often superior production quality and the exploration of diverse cultural themes. Governments should indeed consider providing increased financial support to local film industries, recognizing the potential economic and cultural benefits. Striking a balance between support and artistic freedom is paramount for nurturing a vibrant and globally competitive local film landscape.
