    Dear Mr. and Mrs. Collins,
I hope this letter finds you well. Firstly, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your kind invitation to Chris's surprise birthday party. It means a lot to me, and I am truly grateful for your thoughtfulness. As you know, Chris and I have been close friends for quite some time, and it's wonderful to see how much you value our friendship.
I am confident that Chris will thoroughly enjoy the surprise party. To my knowledge, he has never had a birthday party before, so this will be a completely new and exciting experience for him. His immediate reaction to the surprise will surely be priceless, and I am eager to hear all about it. Your effort to plan such a special event is commendable, and I am certain it will be a memorable day for Chris.
Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that I will not be able to attend the party. As you may be aware, I am currently in Australia on a temporary visa, and I am diligently preparing for my upcoming IELTS exam to secure the necessary scores for my permanent residency application. Coincidentally, the exam is scheduled for the same day as Chris's party, and I realized the clash only after I had already registered for the test.
I understand that Chris might be disappointed by my absence, and I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. To make it up to him, I am planning to organize a small gathering with our mutual friends at a nearby café. We will surprise him with a big cake and celebrate his birthday together at a later date. I believe this will help show Chris how much he means to us, even if I cannot be there on his special day.
Thank you once again for your kind invitation and for planning such a wonderful surprise for Chris. I hope the party goes exceptionally well, and I look forward to catching up with you all in the near future.
    Best regards,
