    Candidate’s Response:

    Dear Simon,

Hope you’re getting on well with your new flat in London. Just I’ve got a huge favor and I hope you don’t mind.

Without boring you with the details, I need original version of “Hamlet” book by Shakespeare. I had made my best efforts to find this masterpiece here, but it was unsuccessful. Therefore, I’m thinking that you certainly could find it there in any bookshop.

My final project in our classic literature course is psychological analysis of main characters of this book. My mentor has insisted that I should use the authentic text, which there isn’t any digital file in the internet.

I would be extremely appreciative if you could purchase this book for me. If you want to lend me a helping hand in this difficult situation, please tell me about the express delivery price. I’m afraid for such a disaster, which I couldn’t thank you enough.

I look forward to receiving your reply.

    Love,

    Feedback:

Thank you indeed for writing this letter.
    Task Achievement (TA):
The letter sufficiently addresses all parts of the prompt: explaining what is wanted (original version of “Hamlet”), why it is wanted (for a final project in a classic literature course), and suggesting how the friend could help (purchasing the book and informing about the delivery price).
Some details are lacking clarity, such as the urgency and specific reasons why the book is unavailable locally.

    Coherence and Cohesion (CC):
The letter is generally well-organized, with a logical flow of ideas.
There are some cohesive devices used (e.g., "Therefore," "I would be extremely appreciative"), but the transition between some sentences is abrupt or slightly awkward.
The closing sentence could be more cohesive in connecting gratitude with the favor being asked.

    Lexical Resource (LR):
The vocabulary used is adequate and appropriate for the task, with some variety (e.g., "authentic text," "psychological analysis," "masterpiece").
There are occasional lapses in word choice and collocation (e.g., "lend me a helping hand in this difficult situation" is a bit formal and awkward for the context).

    Grammatical Range and Accuracy (GRA):
There are frequent grammatical errors that do not significantly impede communication but do detract from the overall accuracy (e.g., "Just I’ve got a huge favor," "My mentor has insisted that I should use the authentic text, which there isn’t any digital file in the internet").
Sentence structures are mostly simple, with some attempts at complex structures, though not always successful.
Errors in punctuation and article usage are noticeable.

    Dear Simon,
I hope you're settling in well into your new flat in London. I find myself in need of a favor and hope you can assist me.
I am currently searching for an original edition of Shakespeare’s "Hamlet" for my final project in a classic literature course. Despite extensive efforts, I've been unable to locate this edition locally. It's essential for a psychological analysis of the main characters, as my mentor insists on using the authentic text, which unfortunately isn't available online.
Could you possibly purchase this book from a local bookshop in London? If you could let me know the cost, including express delivery, I would be extremely grateful. I can transfer the money to you as soon as you have the details. This project is crucial for my course, and your help would mean a lot to me.
Thank you in advance for considering my request. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Warm regards,
