Starting in 2022, IELTS candidates will no longer have to travel long distances to IELTS test centers to sit the test. With “IELTS Online”, simply book a test and take it remotely from a private location of your choosing — the same old IELTS you know and love, only more accessible and convenient.

IELTS Online is the new way to take IELTS Academic wherever you are in the world, so let’s answer some of the burning questions you may have about the new delivery method of IELTS:

Q: When will I be able to take IELTS Online?
A: It will become available in early 2022.

Q: Is it different from IELTS on paper or IELTS on computer?
A: No, it will be exactly the same.

Q: Will it be available in my country?
A: IELTS Online will be rolled out gradually and will become available to certain countries first. Your country may or may not be amongst them.

Q: Is it cheaper or more expensive than the regular IELTS?
A: The pricing is expected to be comparable with in-center testing, but it will be announced in 2022.

Q: I’m studying for IELTS General Training. Can I take IELTS Online?
A: Unfortunately, it will be initially available for the Academic version only.

Q: Will it be available at British Council centers or IDP?
A: Both

Q: Will it be accepted by the same organizations?
A: There are negotiations with academic institutions to confirm that they will also accept IELTS Online.

Q: What about the test security when the candidates take the test from home?
A: The exam is proctored by both humans and AI, ensuring that the results are reliable.

Q: Can I still take the test at a center in my city?
A: Of course! No test taker is compelled to take the test online, and you will still have the in-center option.
