Who is Santa?

Learn more about Santa Clause

by | Aug 8, 2019 | Listening, Reading

Christmas is globally celebrated on December 25th and is well-known for its Santa Claus. Do you know what he says when he comes? 🙂 Ho, Ho, Ho! Merry Christmas!

Who is that?

Santa: Why it’s Santa, of course!

Aml: Santa who? I don’t believe we have met before, and why do you always say Ho, Ho, Ho?
Santa: Well, that is just the way a jolly old man like me greets people during the Christmas season.
Aml: Oh, that is nice. In Egypt we say Ahlan, Ahlan. Can you tell me more about yourself?
Santa: Certainly, there is a long tradition about me. Do you have the time?
Aml: To be honest, I am really in a bit of a hurry. I have to buy some presents for my family to put in the stockings that we have hanging over our fireplace.
Santa: OK, I will summarize the main points here, but I recommend that you do further research on your own to learn more about my legend.
Aml: That sounds fair, I am listening.
Santa: It all began back in the fourth century. My parents were very rich, you see, and they both died when I was very young.
Aml: Oh, I am so sorry to hear about that.
Santa: No worries Aml, that was a long, long time ago? and I am over the pain.
Aml: That is good to hear, Santa.
Santa: Back to my story; when my parents died, I inherited a humongous sum of money and I did not need all of it to live a happy life. So, I decided to share my wealth with other people who were less fortunate than me, especially the children.
Aml: It sounds like you were a very kind man.
Santa: Yes, in fact so much so that the Catholic Church gave me the title of Saint.
Aml: That is quite an honor.
Santa: Uhhm, yes, and quite undeserved I am sure. My real name is Nicholas. When the news of some of my secret generosity was spread, folks abbreviated my name from Saint Nicholas to Santa Claus, and eventually everyone came to know me as Santa.
Aml: Wow! That is a very neat story.
Santa: Yes, indeed. There is much, much more to the story, but we don’t have time for it now. In fact, when you do your research, you will even find out that I am the man who started the tradition of placing the gifts inside the stockings at Christmas time too.
Aml: Gosh Santa! You really are an amazing person! I want to find out more about you like why you wear that red and white suit.
Santa: Ho, Ho, Ho! That is my Christmas suit, and I need it to keep me warm in the North Pole where the ice and snow is. Look! Isn’t that your bus for the mall? Good luck finding your presents! Merry Christmas!
